Building the Red5 Admin with Flex Builder 3
October 12th, 2007Port Tester
May 24th, 2007I created a simple port tester with Flex that determines which ports the Flash Player is able to connect through to a RTMP server like Red5 or Flash Media Server.
You can grab the source from the Red5 Subversion repository or download the latest version of Red5 and check out the sample applications.[kml_flashembed movie="http://red5.googlecode.com/svn/flash/trunk/deploy/port_tester.swf?format=raw" height="450" width="350" /]

Red5 and Cairngorm
April 8th, 2007Last year I created the publisher application and received alot of requests to release the source. The original application was one big monolithic mxml/as file, and although the application worked, I didn’t want to release the source like that so I worked on a new Cairngorm version. The source of that Cairngorm 2.2.2 version is now available as part of the Red5 server. It also includes an Ant script to build the application and documentation.

Red5 plugin for Wildfire
February 11th, 2007Dele Olajide created a Red5 plugin for the Wildfire XMPP server. Wildfire is an enterprise instant messaging (EIM) server dual-licensed under the Open Source GPL and commercially. It uses the open protocol for instant messaging, XMPP (also called Jabber).
The Red5 plugin allows you to exchange video during a chat session and is using persistent video streams as a replacement for avatars currently used by most XMPP clients. A web xmpp client based on JWChat (Jabber Web Chat) is included that uses Wildfire http-bind and a single audio/video window that shows up to 12 audio/video streams from all your users in current MUCs and IM sessions. There are also client plugins available for the Spark and Pandion XMPP clients.
More info can be found on the readme page or the forum and you download the plugin here

Red5 for Mac OSX installer available
November 2nd, 2006From now there will be a Red5 installer available for Mac OSX, starting with Red5 0.6 RC1. You can download it from this page. Red5 requires Java 1.5 (included with Mac OSX) and this installer is tested on Mac OSX 10.4.8. I also tried it on 10.3.9 but it didn’t work because there’s no Java 1.5 for this version of OSX. Give it a try and let me know if it’s working for you.
